Ms. Kumba Tamba

Encountering Ms. Kumba Tamba marked a significant moment in my life.

The serendipity of spotting her at Secretaries Connect assured me it was more than a mere coincidence.

Ms. Kumba Tamba emerges as an extraordinary individual, embodying wisdom and expertise across various facets of life.

As a dedicated Christian, law student, and pursuer of studies in International Relations, her multifaceted persona is truly intriguing.

Join me as we delve into an insightful interview to unravel her on a personal level and gain insights into her perspectives on pressing issues.

Let the exploration begin! šŸŽ¤šŸ“–

Who is Kumba Tamba?

Kumba Tamba is a youth and women activist.

She believes in creating equal opportunities and causing meaningful impact in society.

As an ardent agent of change, she believes that everyone ought to contribute their quota no matter how little.

Ms. Tamba, you are a prolific Speaker. I see that you really love what you do. What encouraged you to become a speaker and why do you love being a speaker?

Well, I must burst your bubble by informing you that I did not grow up considering being a public speaker.

It happened based on the encouragement of some of my loved ones.

I took to the stage to speak a couple of times, and everyone felt like "oh sheā€™s good at this," so I would often be invited to speak and moderate at events.

I guess itā€™s a talent I hadnā€™t discovered until then. Now, what has kept me speaking, is my desire for change and to make a positive impact.

Being a public speaker gives me the opportunity to impart knowledge and cause a shift in mindsets.

It gives me a chance to positively influence lives, and this excites me. Speaking is purpose for me.

As a Youth Development Enthusiast, what do you think would aid in youth development, especially the females in this time and age of developmental suicide and social vices?

I must first give credit to the numerous individuals and institutions that have and continue to contribute to women development.

We've come a long way. However, there's still more to do. I am of the view that to aid youth development, especially females, we need to amplify our efforts and voices in that regard.

I also posit that more skill empowerment programs should be done.

We need to unite and combine resources to offer mentorship, training as well as job opportunities to the youth and particularly women.

Ted talks is in Ucc, what would you say to encourage student speakers, poets, dancersĀ , singers among others to engage themselves in this opportunity?

The best I can say to these artists is that, the best you can do for yourself is never to relent at any opportunity to showcase what you do.

The more exposure you get, the more you will network and get business offers.

Ted Talks is a great platform for everyone to leverage on, for personal and professional growth.

Donā€™t you feel scared or have butterflies in your tummy when you stand Infront of people? How do you generate confidence to do what you do?

Hahaha, scared? Not at all. Butterflies in my tummy, yes, sometimes. Especially, when the audience is not my regular one.

This usually happens in the first few seconds and your recovery from that is dependent on how prepared you are for the task.

Hence, I often prepare adequately before I start.

I prepare an outline of what I plan to say and at what point. I prepare a strong opening statement and a closing.

If you're able to wow your audience and catch their attention in your opening, you are likely to feel more confident moving on because they will encourage you with their smiles, applause, nods etc.

Ms. Kumba, do you honestly feel tired from all your duties and this social media pressure? How do you brace yourself up every morning to do your work?

Tiredness is inevitable as a human but I honestly donā€™t feel tired of what I do. This is what I love. In fact, it is something I do to put me back on track.

When you are doing what you love, thereā€™s always motivation to keep up. For social media, I do take intermittent breaks to refresh.

I never feel pressured by what I see on social media, instead it inspires me to do better when I see what others are doing.

In order to overcome social media pressure, follow people who inspire you rather than those who show unrealistic successes.

Itā€™s good for you to study people from a good distance before you start following them or let them influence you. What do people say about them, how do they speak, dress or interact with others?

Are they people you want to associate with? You need to put these into consideration so you donā€™t get pressured.

How do you balance your personal life and professional life?

Sincerely, there is no real balance between these two. They are interconnected however, there are times I take breaks from professional activities.

Again, there are times where you need to focus more on one thing than the other. So there isnā€™t a real balance.

I believe you are a Christian Ms. Kumba. What would you say to our fellow christians, especially the the girls to uphold the Word of God as their standard despite this odds of this world.

I often tell my mentees this, "when the going gets tough, it's those who know their God that get going not the tough." You cannot leave God out of what you do.

It is an error. God is the only one who can keep you sane when things go haywire. Also, God is the one who gives good success. The Bible says "those who know their God shall be strong and do exploits."

If you want to do well, you need God.

I believe you are into Mentorship. What is the essence of having a mentor and the need to mentor others from your perspective?

A Mentor is that person who serves as a guiding light. They are people who have often gone ahead and can share valuable knowledge and experience with you to set you up for success.

With a mentor, you can avoid unnecessary mistakes and gain access to resources that'll spur you unto success.

To me, having a mentor is a prerequisite for success.

What is UMI? How did you start working with them and what is the importance of UMI?

UMI Foundation is a non-profit organization set up by Ms Marina Lamptey. UMI Foundation is committed to empowering young people and helping them unlock their potentials.

As a mentee of Marina, I have the privilege of automatically working with UMI. I connected with Marina on LinkedIn, just in case it interests you to know.

I sent a message and she responded and selected me to be part of "A Lady with a Dream" initiative which is also her brainchild.

Do you sometimes make mistakes? What is the essence of mistakes in oneā€™s life? How could one turn a mistake to oneā€™s own benefit?

Oh yes! I do make mistakes. Mistakes are learning opportunities. I think they actually bring a new perspective to what you do. At times, they are a gateway to new discoveries.

You can only turn your mistakes into a benefit when you learn the right lesson from it. At times, people pick the wrong lessons and that's not good.

Do you have any upcoming projects? How could one reach out to you and follow you?

Yes I do, I am planning a skills training program for my mentees. Details will be communicated in due course.

What advice would you give to us, your followers and fansšŸ˜?

Stay true to yourself and pursue your goals relentlessly.

You owe it to yourself and society to do well.

Best wishes in your endeavors.

Love, Kumba.
